The Oregon Health Authority has been working for more than a year to transform the way it delivers health care. Right now, says Mike Bonetto with the Oregon Health Policy Board, costs are rising with no end in sight, and the care that Oregon Health Plan patients (and most other health care consumers) get is largely uncoordinated. Bonetto says that coordinating people's physical, mental and dental care will both save the state money and actually improve health care outcomes.
This video from the Oregon Health Authority explains how the new system might work, based on the story of Ted Hanberg:
The Oregon Health Policy Board met one last time on Tuesday before the start of the February legislative session, where lawmakers will give the Board a thumbs-up or -down on the implementation plan. We'll find out what approval would mean for Oregon Health Plan members and others that the state buys health care for.
Are you on the Oregon Health Plan? What questions do you have about the way your health care may be changing? If you're one of the approximately 400,000 other people the state buys health care for, what do you want to know about the planned transformation of the way your health care benefits are administered?
