Oregon's Endangered Historic Places
The Historic Preservation League of Oregon released their list of Oregon's most endangered historic places. Among them are barns, houses, and a unique theater in Coos Bay. You can see photos of each place here.
The Egyptian Theatre, now 85 years old, is a landmark in downtown Coos Bay. It houses an original Wurlitzer organ, hand-painted backdrops, and Egyptian style décor. The City of Coos Bay purchased the theater in 2006. After it was listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, a required structural inspection revealed that the building is unsafe to occupy; repairs and other renovations will cost about $3.7 million. We'll find out what's next for the Egyptian Theatre and other "endangered places" in Oregon.
